Task 2
Question: Some people believe that purpose of education should be helping the individual to become useful for society, while others believe that it should help individuals to achieve their ambitions. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

Globalization has ushered in monumental metamorphoses in every walk of human life, and education is not an exception to this ongoing phenomenon. From time immemorial, man has been striving to attain peak performance and splendid success in the sphere of education, especially in its objectives, pedagogy, curriculum and assessment. Interestingly, one school of thought vociferously advocates the conventional teaching strategy enunciated by eminent educational experts who focus solely on individuals' accomplishment whereas the other school of thought endorses a much more magnanimous approach, namely the education exclusively for the emancipation and enlightenment of the society. Amidst the diversity of opinions, this educational treatise expounds in detail how paramount these two theories are in present-day scenario.

Whilst fathoming out the intricacies of the former theory, which lays a great deal of emphasis on individuals' attainment, it is argued that fulfilment of one's treasured dreams has immense salutary effect. As a matter of fact, when an adolescent joins a college or a university, he or she aspires the topmost positions in studies and later in society. This inordinate yearning for higher echelons in life is the bona fide impetus for their meticulous and diligent attitude, which helps them reach the pinnacle of achievement. Consequently, the psychological contentment derived from such huge accomplishment moves them forward to a world, beyond their small surroundings, that will be dominated by sparkling careers, handsome salaries and flamboyant living standards. Thus, they are convinced education is the right direction which leads them to a dream-come-true moment they have been cherishing since their teenage; at this joyful juncture, they feel enormously eager to herald to the rest of the world that they are second to none. In reality, such is the scale of their satisfaction emanated copiously from education, which is reckoned to be the stepping stone to one's Nirvana.

In contrast, a great many educational pioneers and philosophers like Dr Radhakrishnan, the former President of India and Rabindranath Tagore, the universally acclaimed poet, have time and again pinpointed the grave anomalies in the system. Unless the triumph in professional, scientific and technological realms reaches the down-trodden, and is celebrated heartily in their midst, the purpose of education is defeated; unless the inner light cast by the enlightened mentors is of succour to those who grope in the dark, the sublime goal of education is once again on the verge of disaster. Hence, educationalists should be able to nurture individuals who will be able to play an integral role in resolving social issues. While one peruses the pages of history, it is learnt that intellectuals were honed in the ancient universities to direct the nation. Likewise, when our younger generation is groomed for achieving quantum leaps in key sectors, the message has to be loud and clear that the benefits of their arduous learning have to be shared simultaneously with the penurious ones. In other words, according to this theory, the purpose of education has to be directed more towards the society's uplift than the individuals accomplishment.

At the culmination of the discourse, it can be logically ascertained that a holistic approach incorporating emotional, social and academic needs of students in an integrated learning format has got to be restructured so as to help both the individuals and society. Once this lofty concept is materialized, I am doubly confident that the heyday of the educational department is in the offing.
