Task 2
Question: Many people put their personal information online ( address, telephone number and so on) for purposes such as signing up for social networks or online banking. Is this a positive or a negative development ?

Man’s perpetual pursuit of excellence has prompted him to ponder upon a plethora of possibilities that pave the way for glittering achievements; these relentless endeavours have been materialized in many respects. That is why mankind has been fortunate to witness a great many breathtaking breakthroughs in infrastructure such as technology, tele-medicine, online banking, social media networking and so forth. However, in order to avail these novel amenities to perfection, it is rather mandatory that one puts down one's personal details like address, contact number etc, which, according to experts, is absolutely a bone of contention. Despite the fact that the issue under discussion is highly controversial, my firm tilt is towards the school of thought which delineates that the mechanism of furnishing the internet platforms with the personal information is preposterous and perilous.

At the behest of the officialdom of various websites, the digital media users all over the globe are required to purvey their personal details in order to be active participants on such sites. Though the concept does not apparently entail any kind of obvious threat to one's privacy and liberty, it does cause enormous apprehension in many minds. The immensity of the matter is so mammoth that, unless strict and stringent steps are adopted by the concerned authority, chances are many and varied that such crumbs of personal information can be manipulated unscrupulously, and thereby the reputation of individuals, at times of VIPs and establishments is tarnished. Whilst in bygone days, it was paparazzi who pursued the celebrities for their vested interests, these days the villains are the vile masterminds on the websites, who try to pry into the personal lives of people; consequently, many an innocent soul becomes panic-stricken for no reason of theirs. In brief, one's peace of mind is at stake owing to the corrupt mentality of a tiny minority of internet users who find pleasure in maligning the bona fide elites as well as the masses on the web page.

Whatever has been enunciated in the aforementioned lines is only the tip of the iceberg. To explicate, instances of web-linked hocus pocus, scams and scandals are rampant in every nook and cranny of the world. Nowadays, this unethical tendency towards hoodwinking is all the more conspicuous in web portals with bogus identity. More alarmingly, the presence of such humbugs who entice and sometimes intimidate the genuine beneficiaries of the web pages has been mounting at an exponential rate for the last few years. Thus, some simple-minded and naive personages whose personal details are collected in a clandestine way by these ‘web thugs', have been prey to their alluring promises; as a result, they lose an overwhelmingly substantial amount of money. Further, it is reported that there have been cases when huge ransom was demanded by these swindlers in order to avoid further financial, social and emotional damage. All in all, the bitter experiences of online dealings have had disastrous repercussions in the minds of the bruised victims whose only fault is sharing their personal information with various versions of web-browsers.

It will be utopian and unfair if no mention is made about the viewpoint of the exponents who pontificate that all is well with the users' option of putting their personal details online. To reinforce, it is argued that they leave no stone unturned so as to make every internet activity easier, faster and safer with the solid support of the contemporary sophisticated digital technology.

To conclude, in the light of all the crime, malpractices and setbacks to the system, it is of paramount importance that cyber police are more vibrant and vigilant to thwart the sinister designs of these dubious characters on the internet platforms. Or else, the growing menace posed by this omnipotent foe of humanity will continue to play havoc with everyone's interests, freedoms and privacy.

Tip: Understanding what the question specifies, is overcoming half the problem. It is essential to pay attention to all the issues mentioned in the question.
